Confederate Soldiers from North Carolina
Title
Confederate Soldiers from North Carolina
Text
North Carolina enlisted approximately one-sixth of the men serving in the Confederate military. Nearly every adult white man served in some capacity. Nearly 110,000 volunteers and conscripts joined the military. (Only 115,000 white men were eligible for the vote in the 1860 election.) Approximately, 40,000 men died in Confederate service, a larger number than any other Confederate state. (Link 2009, 191-192)
