Title
"Democrats are you Ready?," Raleigh Weekly Standard, October 31, 1860
Description
In this article by the Raleigh Weekly Standard, the paper which backed the Democratic Party candidate Breckenridge argued why Lincoln should not be elected. The paper stated its belief that if Lincoln was elected it meant that the Constitution of the United States would have been violated by the triumph of a geographical party. The paper insists that the election of Lincoln without any support from the states in the South would only serve to deepen sectioinal differences between the North and South and could lead some states in the South to seek the dissolution of the Union itself.
