North Carolinians and the "Peculiar Institution"
The historical record contains seemingly endless writings about slavery in America. These records include many different interpretations of the costs and benefits of the institution. These costs and benefits often changed throughout the Antebellum period. This activity will explore the thoughts on slavery of seven North Carolinians. It also includes secondary sources that explain the evolution of the arguements for and against slavery. Participants will use all of these resources and answer a series of questions.
