In order to make sense of primary sources, it is important know some background on the time period in which they were written. Read the attached secondary sources, "From Proslavery to Secession" and "Sectional Conflict: Slavery, Sectionalism Sow Seeds of War." This scholarship will contextualize the slavery debate which is necessary for understanding the primary sources that are part of step three.
