Michael Moore, Exhibit case in "North Carolina and the Civil War," 2013
Title
Michael Moore, Exhibit case in "North Carolina and the Civil War," 2013
Description
Material artifacts in the exhibit also mask efforts to seriously question the ideology of Confederate soldiers. In this case, battlefield hospitals are highlighted through the inclusion of surgical instruments, a crutch, and a prosthetic leg. When viewed alongside a confederate uniform and one of several Confederate battle flags (no Union flags are present in the exhibit), the viewer is exposed to a powerful juxtaposition. The visual narrative reinforces the generally noncritical tone which highlights themes of sacrifice and death throughout the exhibit.
