Title
"Election of Lincoln and Hamlin!," Fayetteville Observer, November 8, 1860
Description
This item is an editorial from the Unionist newspaper the Fayetteville Observer in which the paper reports on the 1860 national election results. The paper laments the election of Abraham Lincoln as President, but it stresses the fact that although Lincoln won the Presidency, the oppostion Democratic party gained seats in both houses of Congress. The newspaper stresses that the election of Lincoln, although not a positive for the South, is not cause for panic. Since he does not have the backing of Congress, the paper feels that there is little the new President can do to harm the rights of the South.
