February 28th article in the Unionist Fayetteville Observer in which the paper reported that a compromise had been voted for in the House of Representatives and that the House had also defeated a use of force bill. This reporting highlighted several Unionist victories both in the Legislature as well as at the ballot box with the defeat of the Secession Convention. The newspaper was joyously reporting events which it felt were indicative of strong Unionist support in North Carolina.
