The Second Battle of Fort FIsher

The Second Battle of Fort Fisher, much like the first, consisted of a joint effort between Union army and naval forces with the inclusion of a massive artillery bombardment. This time, the artillery bombardment succeeded in weakening the fort's defense to the extent that, amongst brutal infantry combat, the Union forces successfully capturing the most essential piece of the Confederate defense of the port at Wilmington.
